COREPROTECT Series of Corrosion Resistant Coatings (CRA)

COREPROTECT PreheatingLaser Cladding has emerged as the new technology of choice for protection against extremely corrosive environments. COREPROTECT was developed by LWS for the optimization of important coating properties that directly impact the lifetime of your component such as:

  • A low dilution rate with the base material of less than 5%
  • Iron pick up in the coating surface of less than 5% for all typical corrosion resistant alloys
  • Exceptional metallurgical bonding between clad layer and base material with minimized heat-affected zone

The importance of dilution and iron pick up cannot be overstated. A higher amount of iron as picked up from the base material due to increased dilution will in most cases cause premature corrosion and/or failure of your parts.

 Coating Dimensions:

  • Standard width single weld bead:  .200” – .330” (5.0 mm – 8.5 mm)
  • Minimum width single weld bead:  .024” (0.6 mm)
  • Thickness per single clad layer:  .010” to .080” (0.25 mm to 2.0 mm)
  • Typically recommended thickness per single layer is .060” (1.5 mm)

COREPROTECT layers can be stacked for material build-up. However, due to the excellent properties of the LWS laser process stacking is typically not required to achieve the desired corrosion protection.
